His face is clear and his wig has been styled and powdered. His cravat is tied the correct way implying that the sitter is conversant with the days fashion. His coat is made of the finest satin and the buttons are covered in the same material. Everything about the sitter exudes self-confidence. This is portraiture as it was expected from sitters of the period. calm, self assured, a man of wealth and power.
