Fine Shipwreck Painting

The sunlight filters through the dark and ominous storm clouds to illuminate a naval tragedy taking place near the distant horizon. Sailing ships are swarming around a vessel in distress while a rowboat is launched from the rocky coastline by the rescuers. The artist has used the light coming through the clouds to highlight the brave men who are about to risk their lives to aid their fellow seamen. As dark and threatening clouds are portrayed it is interesting to note the calmness of the actual sea itself. The pools along the beach reflect the spotted sunlight adding and heightening the darkness above and around them. This subject may have been an actual event, but if not it may have been something that the artist may have compiled from different events. Even so, as an island England's wealth and prosperity has always been linked with the sea and the sailors who risked everything on an almost daily basis.
