The Wedding Party Painting

An inn is the setting for this joyous occaision. The groom, standing a head taller than anyone else in the room and partially hidden by the dancer in the center foreground, greets the bride as she enters followed by her friends. It is interesting to note that it is the dancer who takes center stage in this painting as if to distract the viewer and give some privacy to the newly married couple. To the right of the main party and a little further to the back are another young couple, she is wearing a dark green hat and dress while he is wearing a leather cape like jacket, are so engrossed in each other that nothing around them seems to matter. Other members of the party are seated at tables along the far right hand side of the painting and what appears to be a member of the clergy is leaning over a seated couple enjoying the festivities around them. The reason that the dog in the near center foreground is given such a prominent position is that in the iconography of art the dog has always represented faithfulness.
